Can Honeycomb be digested by stomach?
« on: January 01, 2011, 12:41:48 AM »
I put honeycomb into warm water to mix with honey, after I chew honeycomb, it becomes so hard. I just wonder whether honeycomb can be digested by stomach or not after chewing.
Does anyone have any suggestions on whether honeycomb can be eat or not after chewing?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

i think it depends on the quantity you eat. I was always eating it and never had problems digesting it.  :)

There's a simple experiment you can do... Look for evidence of undigested honeycomb...

But undigested honeycomb may stay inside body for long time.
Thanks everyone very much for suggestions

Honeycomb is mainly composed of wax, which is not broken down in human digestive systems.
This wax is usually not in any way harmful. Many candies are coated with mineral oil, which is basically petroleum oil, similar to petroleum jelly, but shorter hydrocarbon chains.  :o
I find this somewhat disturbing, and am reluctant to eat such candies, but apparently it is not harmful. Incidently, my lakrisal candies contain ammonium chloride for flavor.

Petrol seems to be poisonous mostly because it is so volatile.
