Corrosion inhibitors in linseed oil??
« on: September 04, 2005, 03:10:36 PM »
Hi,
I've heard that Raw Linseed Oil should contain some corrosion inhibitors.
Is this true? If so, what is the name of those?

Thanks
Fredrik

Hello toritech,

Any natural occuring oil contains some version of corrosion inhibitors.  The active ingredient depends on your method of corrosion.  For example, the natural viscosity of oil is good for repelling atmospheric corrosion on most iron-based metals.  In this case, it would be the longest chain hydrocarbons which increase the oils viscosity.

I hope this helps,

Eugene
