How to Handle Mercury(II) Chloride
« on: January 10, 2011, 05:10:48 AM »
Hello,

What precautions should I take if I wanted to use mercuric chloride?
Besides the obvious things, like wearing gloves, not eating/sniffing/drinking the stuff, keeping it away from children, etc., is there anything else I should be especially careful about?

Thank you.

HgCl2 sublimes. Keep in a tightly closed container, stored in a cool, dry, ventilated area.

Only open the bottle in a fume hood.  Move your balance there if you need to weigh it.

If you make regular practice of its use, I would also get Hg testing done on an occasional basis.
