NH4NO3 and a carbonate and a hydroxide
« on: January 13, 2011, 03:53:37 AM »
Hi,

is this correct?

ammonium nitrate + calcium carbonate --> water + CO2 +NH3 +salt

or AN + CC --> AC + CN

Also for?

ammonium nitrate + calcium hydroxide-> water + NH3+salt

NH4+ is acid in Bronsted-Lowry theory right?

Thanks in advance,
Neverquit

Calcium carbonate is insoluble in water, hence the first reaction will be very slow.

ammonium nitrate + calcium hydroxide-> water + NH3+salt

yes, you can mix the 2 solids together and on gentle heating you get nh3 gas and h20 gas.
