help writing molecule in condensed format
« on: January 30, 2011, 11:13:27 AM »
Hi, I'm confused on writing the formula for the attached molecule.  My best guess was (CH3)2CHOCHO,  but it is incorrect.  Any ideas?

I'd perhaps consider moving the second oxygen to the other side of the carbon, to make it clearer it's an ester, rather than a keto-aldehyde?

The format OCHCH2OCH(CH3)2 should leave little ambiguity about the correct structure.
"2-Isopropoxy acetaldehyde" would be the proper name.

Are you sure? Isn't it isopropyl formate (or some equivalent)?
