I'm a fresh graduate, now a PhD student, with access to Co60 gamma-ray source. I've been trying to set up an experiment for some time now that would include irradiating precursor solution with gamma rays in order to get products with some extraordinary properties. My problem is that while the Co60 source is being used all the time, nobody is using it for radiation chemistry and I have to "rediscover" things that I assume are considered trivial amongst the researchers in this field.
 
I would be very grateful if somebody could point me to a handbook that describes the experimental procedure of a radiation chemistry experiment, from choosing/preparing glassware to required reagent grade to special requirements (usage of sealed reactors) etc. It would be even better if the handbook explained why the requirements and what are the consequences of ignoring them.
