Complex Ion Naming
« on: March 27, 2011, 08:11:11 PM »
Dithiocyanatobis(triphenylphosphine)nickel(II)

The SCN should coordinate to the Ni through the S right? Instead of through the N? How would I name it if it coordinated through the N?

Thanks

Isothiocyanate R-N=C=S

Thioscyanate R-S-CN

This is valid for organic compounds

In anorganic complexes Thiocyanate and Isothiocyanate are mesomer

SCN- <=> NCS-

There is no change in naming
