how many molecules of NH3 are there in CaCl2.xNH3 i.e what is x  ?

is it variable ? if yes, then what should i write the ans if i get a similar question in my exam asking value of x  ?  :-\

Without more data question doesn't make sense (unless they check your memory and you were given this information during the course; that's unlikely). I would expect it to be a part of a question and you are expected to calculate x from a given data.
