What is the major products in reactions like

CH3CH2CHCH3
            l
            OH

Is it : CH3CH=CHCH3

                 or
 
          CH3CH2CH=CH2

                ?
And why is this so?
 ???

the reason that you get CH3CH=CHCH3 is that it's the thermodynamically more stable product. the process is called Saytzeff elimination.
