Anyone good at nomenclature? Got a hard one.
« on: April 19, 2011, 12:23:37 AM »
Let me preface this and say this isn't a homework assignment or anything like that. I am trying to figure out the IUPAC name (or close to it) for this ligand and being an inorganic chemist am having a hard time coming up with the a proper or acceptable name for it. It is a C2-ligand and is a derivative of pyrazine, which the author exclusively refers to as compound 2.

Here it is:

Hopefully, one of you all are a bit better than me at this. I never was good at organic nomenclature (especially when it came to ring systems).

My verison of ChemDraw is choking on it. Best I can get is with one of the bornane subunits deleted:

1,11,11-trimethyl-3,6-diazatricyclo[6.2.1.02,7]undeca-2,4,6-triene

Maybe you could get away with calling it "dibornopyrazine"?
Individual results may vary

finally found something that will name this beast:

Preferred IUPAC Name = 1,8,15,15,16,16-hexamethyl-3,10- diazapentacyclo[10.2.1.15,8.02,11.04,9]hexadeca- 2,4(9),10-triene
