C5H11Br structure from NMR and IR
« on: April 19, 2011, 08:19:10 PM »
Hello,

I attached the given IR and H NMR for C5H11Br.  I previously wrote a molecule next to the IR but I don't know if it is correct.

On IR I see C-H stretch a little less than 3000cm-1

on h nmr:
multiplet or sextet a little over 4.00ppm (d)
triplet at 0.9 (a)
doublet at 1.65 (c)
multiplet at 1.4ppm (b)

If anyone could help me I will greatly appreciate it.  I am not sure if there are multiples on both sides of the doublet or just on the right side.  Thanks again :)

I think I got it:  I think the correct structure is CH3CH(Br)CH2CH2CH3

2-bromopentane

Is this the correct structure?  Thank you for your help :)
