ethene and water

I was wondering why ethene does not react with water, but, when ethene is passed into concentrated sulphuric acid and water is added to the solution, ethanol is formed.

wHY is this?

 H-OH

H is + so is attracted to the electrons in the pi orbital, so why dosent it act across?

the acid works as catalist

only the H of the acid is electrophilic enough to react with the double bond
Math and alcohol don't mix, so... please, don't drink and derive!
