Can we get Oxygen (O2) from electrolysis H2O
« on: May 02, 2011, 12:03:16 AM »
Hello everyone,

I will attempt to get or extract oxygen using electrolysis process,

and this my material:
  • Transfomator (DC)
  • bottle with pipe
  • cable
  • distillate water (H2O)
  • copper for (+) and zinc for (-)

with all of these material can I do electrolysis test?

Basically all you need to do is run a current though water and you'll get H2 at the cathode and O2 at the anode. However, keep in mind that pure water does not conduct well at all. You should add an electrolyte.

Table salt should do fine.
Or better yet, use tap water. It comes with an array of electrolytes  :)
