Disposal Of SmI2
« on: May 27, 2011, 11:54:26 AM »
Doing a lab cleaning, we found old bottle of SmI2 in THF. How should I dispose of them?

Never had to quench SmI2, but the Wikipedia( :P) page on reductions with samarium iodide recommends dillute HCl. Its also supposed to be great at reducing carbonyls. If you're nervous about putting acid on it, I'd try chilling it down and adding some acetone, follow up with water and dilute acid.
Individual results may vary
