hydrogenation
« on: June 04, 2011, 09:36:31 AM »
If a compound has both alkene and alcohol functional group, is the hydroxyl group affected or cleaved by catalytic hydrogenation?

Thanks :)

Nope, it shouldn't do anything to the alcohol. Usually, one would use catalytic hydrogenation to remove a protecting group like benzyl or TBS from the oxygen to get the alcohol.
