I think calcium carbonate is a base ( i am not sure , because I think it will accept hydrogen )
while acid is acid, so I think calcium carbonate + acid is a neutralization
on the other hand, some textbooks define that neutralization is a reaction that forms salt and water ONLY....
One of my fellow colleagues said that it is not a neutralization because calcium carbonate does not form hydroxide ion to react with hydrogen ion...
While another colleague argued that since it (carbonate) reacts with hydrogen ion by accepting the hydrogen ion, and the acid is reacted / disappeared, the acidity decreases and pH increases, so there is no reason to say that it is not a neutralization"
I just feel very confused.....
