Confusion about solubility?
« on: August 04, 2011, 02:42:23 AM »
Is the whole method of comparing Qsp to Ksp and solubility rules different?

Does Qsp and Ksp (depending on which is bigger) determines if a PRECIPITATE forms and not if something will dissolve?

what confuses me is that when i have a displacement reaction, do we figure out which becomes a precipitate using the solubility rules? i'm confused.

Solubility rules just list the rules of what will dissolve and what wont and nothing about precipitation, right?

and another question to have it cleared up is, precipitation is what's FORMED not dissolved, right?

Whats the whole point of Qsp/Ksp thing if you can figure out if a ppt will form from solubility rules?  ???

yes.

yes, precipitation will be the solid that forms because it's insoluble in the solution
