forming AlON
« on: August 27, 2011, 06:57:57 AM »
Hi I'm new to chemistry,
can I make AlON (Al23O27N5) from Al3O2by adding nitric acid in ratio before heating it all to 2200*C?

I think you mean Al2O3, and Al(NO3)3 .
Al2O3 + 6HNO3  :rarrow: 2Al(NO3)3 + 3H2O is an acid-base reaction and you don't need to heat the solution to 2200oC.

No, he is looking for a way of making ceramic aluminium oxynitride, not a simple salt.
