Mass precent task
« on: August 29, 2011, 05:14:24 PM »
I have this task. It's not homework or anything that I want you to do, but pelase explain how to do it, I've tried for like 40 minutes :(

The highest oxide this element forms is EO2, and in it's compound with hydrogen (which is vaporous), the hydrogen is 5.88% of the mass. What is the element?

I know the answer is S, but how do I do this task?

If I can somehow prove on paper, that in the compound with hydrogen there are 2 atoms it's downhill from there, but how do I do that?

I know the answer is S

Is it? What about SO3?

Calculate molar mass of the element from the known percentage of hydrogen, assuming it is HE, H2E, H3E and so on. See if there are elements that fit the information.
