Corrosion of metal
« on: September 03, 2011, 09:48:01 PM »
I need a plausable scenario in which a strong acid, such as hydrochloric or sulfuric acid, would corrode some type of metal.

Look up the reactivity series. Any metal above hydrogen can displace it as H2 from the acid, i.e., the metal can be corroded by the acid

Some guy at a factory slips on a banana peel and lands in a tub full of acid and dies. The acid corrodes his watch.

A bronze statue gets rained on downwind of a power plant burning a particularly sulfurous coal.

Large bladders full of sulfuric acid are thrown by catapult at an advancing army of armored men?

Well, a simple but extremely real scenario is the acid rain one, where nitric and sulfurous acid from the rain corrode statues, gates, etc.
How to Catch a Lion in the Sahara Desert:

The Quantum Measurement Method: We assume that the sex of the lion is _ab initio_ indeterminate. The wave function for the lion is hence a superposition of the gender eigenstate for a lion and that for a lioness. We lay these eigenstates out flat on the ground and orthogonal to each other. Since the (male) lion has a distinctive mane, the measurement of sex can safely be made from a distance, using binoculars. The lion then collapses into one of the eigenstates, which is rolled up and placed inside the cage.
