Iodine Clock reaction
« on: September 04, 2011, 10:02:52 AM »
Hi everyone,

This week, I did an experiment on Idione clock but I don't really know the equation of the reaction.

Here's what we did:

For this experiment, we had to prepare to following mixture in a 25 ml graduated cylinder:

·        0.5 ml of 0.5M Sodium acetate buffer
·        0.6 ml of 0.25M potassium iodide (KI)
·        0.5 ml of 0.02M sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3)
·        4 drops of starch indicator
·        6.4 ml of water
·        2 ml of 0.1M hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)

1.) Can someone help me figure out the equation?
2.) What happens if we shake the mixture at time 0? Does it take more time before we can see the blue?

Thanks

Marc-Antoine

It is a redox reaction in which I2 is reduced to I- and
Na2S2O3 is oxidized to Na2S4O6
