Lithium Hydroxide

  I was hoping to obtain some lithium hydroxide. Would this be an acceptable method? (im just a kid with a love for chemestry, this does not need to be the purest stuff in the world)

  Put lithium metal in distilled water and then evaporate the water and collect the solid left over.

Should work. Note that evolving hydrogen is explosive, while the reaction is not exothermic enough to ignite the hydrogen, it is still dangerous.

Put LiOH in a sealed container, I put mine in a non-capped container and it all reacted with CO2 in air, leaving Li2CO3

  I am ushally able to keep it from igniting, but I have had the hydrogen explode a couple times.  I am allways carfull though.
