I have another question.

What are the products in the reaction between Calcium carbide and water.

I guessed and got the question right, it was ethyne and calcium hydroxide, but is there a method to predicting these type of equations? Or do I have to memorize what carbide does in water.

Also, does anyone have tips on predicting redox reactions? Or should I just identify what is likely to be ox/red and memorize the likely products.
