Band ratio method
« on: October 15, 2011, 10:10:35 AM »
Hello forum, I am preparing for my Analytical Chemistry test and I would like to know what is a band ratio method and when would you use it in UV-VIS?
Thank you!

Fledarmus,
I read the abstract given by sciencedirect. What I understand is that different substance will give different absorbance values but the ratios would not change drastically. When would I need to use that? perhaps when having a substance with absorbance Ax and use a reference with absorbance Ay and a known ratio Rz for another substance and estimate absorbance by Ax/Ay = Rz?

Do you have access to Science? There is an article there that describes one use of the process thoroughly:

If you do a Google Scholar search for "spectral ratio method" you will find many other uses for the technique, across a number of fields.

I do not have access to Science, I will search for spectral ratio method. Thank you.
