CML of the periodic table
« on: November 10, 2011, 07:57:40 AM »
Hello

I'm working on a virtual chemistry laboratory, and I want to use XML to store data on molecules etc. The Chemical Markup Language seems like a good option to do this.

I want to start experimenting with basic reactions, but I can't seem to find premade libraries of for example the periodic table.

I looked on the IUPAC and PubChem sites but can't find what i'm looking for.
Can things like the periodic table be found freely available or should I just write my own?

Thanks in advance.

It seems to me that CML was not written for the Periodic Table. And I doubt that you can find someone who has used for that.

I find all of XML as a joke, but good luck in your project.

I agree. XML is suppose to be about data exchange between different software.
The problem is that you still need to write specific code to read and write that XML and import it into your program. Making it a text readable format offers nothing. It even makes reading and processing the file slower and it becomes more evident for big files.

Example : there is the COLLADA file format with 3D objects. They chose XML. Oh boy.
