Disproportionation of chlorine (Cl2)
« on: November 16, 2011, 05:02:57 AM »
Hello

I was wondering if a disproportionation reaction was an equillibrium reaction?

i was doing a question about disproportionation reaction of Cl2 and how pH affects it?

the answer says "...at low pH, high conc of H+ ions will reduce OH- ion conc and the reaction will move to the left meaning less Cl2 will react."

I thought redox reaction like above was not equilibrium so how does the reaction move left??

Thanks
