Drying potassium carbonate/alkylation question
« on: November 22, 2011, 05:16:15 PM »
slightly off topic, but what is the best way to dry pot carb... in the oven or keep it in a dessicator?

one other question... does the pot carb need to be in solution when carrying out alkylation subsequent to Finkelstein reaction? I'm using acetone under reflux but have read pot carb insoluble in acetone

Dry it in the oven under vacuum. Before use release the vacuum with nitrogen.
Enough goes into solution for the Finkelstein at reflux.
