Identify the isomers A,B,C,D,E whit the molecular formula C4H8
« on: November 24, 2011, 12:15:35 PM »
Identify the isomers A,B,C,D,E whit the molecular formula C4H8 knowing that:
-isomer E doesn't decolorat ethe solution Br2 in CCl4 and it has only secondary atoms in her molecules.
-isomer A,B and C in hydrogenation,in the presence of Ni, makes the same alkan.
-isomer A consume in energic oxidation a bigger quantity of oxidant agent then each of isomers B and C.
-in isomer C the distance betwhen the primal carbon atoms is bigger then the isomer B
-isomer D makes in adition of hydrogen one isoalkan.

Post here if you don't understand something and i will edit question :)

Which isomers of this formula do you know of?

I know isomer E is cyclobutane because is the only isomer of c4h8 whit only secondary carbons
and D is 2-Methylpropane i think cause if we add H2 to it,it results an isoalkan

Sounds good for E, check your name for D. What about A-C? Which alkanes do you know with the same formula as the product of the reaction with D?

Should be fairly straightforward, if you know what all of the reactions are doing.

Why don't you post the five possible isomers of C4H8 and tell us what the products of each would be reaction with Br2, hydrogenation, and oxidation reactions?

I do have one question - I haven't run across the term "primal carbon atoms" before. Could you define that?

nvm i have found the other 2
A was 1 butene
b was cis-2-butene
and c was trans-2-butene
