Portland Cement reaction with Ammonium Nitrate
« on: January 15, 2012, 08:39:52 AM »
When I mix liquid portland cement with gravel soaked with water containing ammonium nitrate fertilizer, it produces an enormous amount of ammonia gas.  What is the reaction happening here?

Can you look up some of the reactions associated with ammonium nitrate, and ammonium salts in general, and compare them with the reactions of Portland cement?  You may be able to solve this problem for yourself.  That's how we like to help, 'round here.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
