You really should give more information -- where did you get the powder, and what do you want it tested for?  Elemental composition, or identity of a large organic molecule are very different tests.

That really adds nothing to the posting.  Of course you will have to pay for this information.  It may cost hundreds or more than a thousand USD.  And the loss of your entire sample.  Still, for a one off test, as opposed to you contracting for a number of tests, many labs simply won't be interested.

If you suspect the powder to be a recreational drug of some kind you can send a 20mg+ sample to Ecstasydata along with the full lab fee of 120 USD.

They won't give complete results, it's not legal in the US, but they will say if any known psychoactive compounds are present and in what proportions.  The site also contains extensive tables of all the results and it's fascinating to see what is really in street drugs.

I have no connection with the service and have never used it.

Well, that is a funny site.  Not going to give great information, but still, their results are good for a laugh.  I'm a little dubious as how its legal for them to accept samples for analysis.  But whatever, a cute site.  Notice their FAQ disclaimer -- they can't accurately quantitate illegal drug components.  Because to do that, they'd need a USP distributed standard, and analyze that along side the unknown sample.  And they're not licensed for that. *I'm wrong here, see below*  See?  This is where the costs for chemical analysis comes from.

*EDIT*

I shoulda read more carefully.  They are licensed to perform analyses, but DEA regulations don't allow them to share the info.  Still, you get an idea for the source of hidden costs for an analytical laboratory.
