is S3N6 a salt, base,or acid?
« on: April 03, 2012, 06:59:40 PM »
Hello  :), I have this problem and I am not sure which type of compound is this-

is S3N6 a salt, base,or acid?

I browsed online for something similar and found that S and N form polymers with the formula (SN)x

But this one is S3N6 so I am not sure - I think it can be a polymer like (SN2)3  but not sure  :(

If I don't know the lewis structure for this compound, I can't say if is an acid or base - I am thinking it may be a lewis acid or a lewis base since it doesn't have H or OH, and I don't think is a salt since I don't see ions.

Can somebody point me in the right directions to answer this question? thank you so much  ;D

A you sure - S4N4 is known and stable. In your case you can guess using octet rule eg: cyclo-(S-N=N)n or linear polymer

oh...so confirmed: it will be like this: (SN2)3

S-N=N-S-N=N-S-N=N

Since it has unbonded electrons, this is a bronsted/lewis base =) ...thanks so much! ;D
