How you would separate a mixture of naphthalene, pyridine and acid p-toluenebenzoic. All the substances are insoluble in water.

When you add HCl to the mixture, pyridine forms pyridinium hydrochloride, which is water soluble. p-toluenebenzoic acid and naphthalene don't dissolve in HCl.

p-toluenebenzoic acid can be dissolved in a base like NaOH probably, with the formation of the sodium salt. And pyridine and naphthalene dont react with NaOH.

Hmm..sorry...but if i put HCL in the mixture, will have a ion H+ on pyridine. Then, after I had put HCL, if i put NaOH,OH- will not react with the H + which is in pyridine?

When you add HCl the mixture should separate into two layers, one polar and one non-polar, you can then separate them, removing the pyridine from the mixture.
