Liquefied phenol stability
« on: November 23, 2005, 11:03:33 AM »
I noticed that when we liquefy phenol by adding water at 8%, it turns to pink after some time (from weeks to months).
Can anybody explain me the reaction? Could it be a transformation to a quinone?
Thank you

Yes phenol readily oxidize from atm O2 as solid and as solution.. Substances with quinoinic stuctures forms also polycondenzation product from reaction phenol + formed quinone i think.

Thank you for the reply.
So, another question. Is there any way to stabilize it?
Thanks
