I was wondering: does 3-phenylpropanoyl chloride react with AlCl3 to form 1-indanone?

How can an acyl chloride + AlCl3 react with an aromatic molecule?

How about this reaction being done intramolecularly?

Thanks for your response! That's exactly what I was thinking...so it would form another ring, correct?

Similarly, would 4-Chloro-1-phenyl-1-butanol react with NaOH in an intramolecular SN2 reaction to form a cyclic ether? Would stereochemistry be relevant in this case?
