Name of structure
« on: June 09, 2012, 04:23:58 AM »
Please help me, how to call this structure:
N2HSO4-C6H4-SO2Cl

I try to call it "sulfonylchloride benzenediazonium hydrosulfate", but it's wrong :(

Can you draw it out? Seems to me you have a couple of oxygens too many, and it would be nice to see the spatial arrangement of the substituents?

Umm ... no, that's not true.  Spatial arrangement definitely changes the name, even for very complicated inorganics, as this one is.  Also, if you're not charge balanced, then the name will never be correct.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

How about the following?
4-(chlorosulfonyl)benzenediazonium hydrogensulfate
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!

If call chloro that means chlor attachs to benzene but it doesn't ?

No it means what it says chlorosulfonyl! Otherwise it would be a chlorobenzene.
What is your suggestion for a name?

no it is a chlorosulfonyl substituent, the sulfur is attached to the ring not the chlorine as I said above.
As I asked what is your suggestion?

Ahh, misread this as being a sulphonamide, rather than a diazonium salt. Discodermolide's suggestion seems fine to me.
