Is there some online site on which we can find the list of common compounds(with their common names) in organic and inorganic chemistry along with their structures?

Eg: glycerol, maleic acid, phenolphthalein, etc..

Check if Wikipedia has such a list, it often has many common trivia lists such as the one you ask for.

Wikipedia is probably the easiest, but you don't need a list. Just type in any name you know and you can find most structures.

If that doesn't work and you are actually looking for a common name (rather than a trade name), SciFinder or the Merck index will also usually lead you to a structure, or at least a small selection of possible structures.

I've also been able to find structures of commercially available materials directly from common names using http://www.chemexper.com/

I am actually preparing for a high school level chemistry quiz. That's why I wanted to know the usual compounds. Thanks for your replies.

Ah - that does make it a challenge. Perhaps that would be a good list to start here, maybe as a sticky - "100 common chemical names that you should know the structure for". Maybe separate sections for organic and inorganic chemicals?

I would like a sticky. Everyone can take turns in posting 2-3 important compounds. But how does one post structures in this forum?
