How to relate activation energy with number of events?
« on: August 05, 2012, 12:16:59 PM »
Hello, everyone!

I'm interested in studying the rotation of a portion of a molecule.
I already determined (theoretically) the activation energy of that process...

I've read books and papers where they say 'XX kcal/mole, that is 100,000 events per second'

Is there any equation I can use to introduce activation energy and temperature and get the frequency of the rotation?

I thought in Arrhenius' equation... but the preexponential factor is an experimental value... or is it possible to calculate it?

Thanks a lot for your time!

If you know the free energy of activation (ΔG*), you can use the Eyring equation.
