Useful Reactions in Organic Synthesis
« on: August 12, 2012, 05:48:40 AM »
Please could I get help with finding ten reactions which are deemed 'useful' in organic synthesis. They neeed to range from simple to complex, so ones with one or two steps to possibly three or four step reactions. They need to be reactions like addition, reduction, oxidisation, elimination, hydrogenation etc.. Any ideas to start me off? :)

Sweet, thats perfect for the complex reactions. Any simpler addition, reduction, elimination etc reactions I should know about regarding synthesis?

At the top of the page are lists of good textbooks. Have a look in there, you may one suitable.

You could take any general organic text and pick a couple of representative reactions from each chapter, that way you cover the basics.

Generally, named reactions are the big ones (this is why they're named), and there are many of these (as you see on organic-chemistry.org). Another good book is: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Strategic-Applications-Reactions-Organic-Synthesis/dp/0124297854

That is a discussion of 250 named reactions.
