Nomenclature problems
« on: August 16, 2012, 07:20:49 AM »
1.In what compounds is the prefix carbox- used, beside cyclic aldehydes and amides?
2.Why is the compound on the attached image called 1.5-dimethyl-naphthalene Whatever side I start from, it won't be 1.5, if I go around it is 1.6, if I go through the middle it is 1.4.

Right, I didn't think of that. They aren't numbered because they cannot have a substituent group on them.
Only the first one now.
