Planned upgrade/downtime
« on: August 28, 2012, 01:11:46 PM »
I plan a site upgrade from SMF 1.1.16 to 2.0.2 - it will happen later this week, most likely on Thursday, my morning - so more or less evening for Aussies and Asians, morning for Europeans, night for Americans. If everything goes well we will be back on line after half an hour, realistically about an hour or two. Worst case scenario is we will be back after several hours using the same forum version we use now.

Please note as of today Thursday is not 100% sure, but could be I will not know exact hour till the last moment, which is why I prefer to warn you all in advance.

Don't expect huge changes to the way forum looks, I have spent last few days working to make the differences as small as possible.

Still, it is exciting to know there will be a new version, that might improve the way the board runs.

It will take some time to configure everything, so even after the upgrade we will be not able to use all new gimmicks immediately. Thing I am waiting for is a warning system, makes tracking moderation easier - you can easily check if someone was already breaking forum rules in the past, or not.

Looks like tomorrow morning...

OK, looks like we are back. There was a panic moment when I lost connection during database upgrade, but as I did double backups of everything, it was just a matter of lost time. Not everything yet looks like it should and I will work on details for the next few hours (although I need a break now).

Please report any issues in this thread (unless they should be not seen by everyone - then report them by PM or in the Staff forum). When reporting the problem, please give a link to the page where you see it and list your version of browser/OS.

Yes, I know menu buttons are not displayed correctly at the moment. I think I even know why. Give me a moment to find out if I remember how to correct them...

Edit: something is wrong, will have to investigate deeper. Buttons are set to be displayed as images, yet they display as text.

I prefer the old green scheme, I think the contrast was better, but I will live.

Another thing I notice is that in my profile, the "profile info", "modify profile" and "actions" buttons are white text on pale grey, which is very difficult to read.

I think it is the same menu button problem I am already investigating.

Buttons done. Half a day to find out some of the images were not replaced with a new ones because of the wrong file owners. Sigh.

You may have to refresh images in the cache to see buttons correctly. Ctrl-Refresh or something like that, it is browser dependent.

Sigh, I just noticed buttons are still not displayed correctly in Chrome and Firefox (but they work in Opera and IE). Trying to find why, but it is tricky.

Please remember to report any problems with the site layout in this thread.

Things look just fine in Firefox, and have since you fixed the "white text on grey" problem.  I did have to reload Firefox's cache, just like you suggested.  Doesn't this look OK?

Different menu - the one hanging down.

Pretty strange, probably it is server related.

That menu looks fine to me, and I am using Firefox 15.0.1 on Windows 7.  The menus looked like that after the upgrade until I cleared the browser's cache, but after clearing the cache I have not noticed any appearance problems on the forums.

I am an idiot. Looks like I have not cleared the cache in two browsers after telling others to do so >:(

But I did it in two other browsers, which is probably why I was sure I did it for all four. Or something else happened.
