DMSO and ethanol
« on: October 26, 2012, 03:49:53 PM »
I need to wet a surface with very small features, for which I need something with very low surface tension. I've been using hot ethanol, but it's still not very good. My next attempt will ideally be DMSO, but I need to know beforehand if mixing ethanol and DMSO can react in a way which could damage the surface. Things to avoid are temperature changes and solid reaction products of any kind.

Can anyone tell me if I can safely mix them? Note that reaction volumes will be microliters of each.

Thanks.

You can safely mix ethanol and DMSO. There will be no reaction.

In case that mixture doesn't work for your application, you might find this helpful:

Do or do not. There is no "try."
