Thank you for your help in advance!
1. Typical eucarioutic cells are ~.05 mm in size, which yields an approximate volume of a single cell of ~6.5e-8 ml, when they are in a normal growth medium( 250 mOsm). Before cells are frozen, they are placed in cryopreservation medium to reduce damage to cell membranes from ice crystals. Typical freezing medium contains 10% DMSO as cryoprotectant and 20% blood serum as a source of nutrients. What volume of individual cells can you expecct to find when they are transferred into cryopreservation medium prior o freezing and why? M(DMSO)= 78g/mol. Blood serum has osmolarity of 295 mOsm.
2. What volume of gas do you expect to find for a mixture of 1 mol ammonia in 1 mol water at normal temperature and pressure assuming ideal behavior? Illusrate. Pressure (h20) equilibrium = .0313 atm
Pressure (NH3) equilibrium = 10.03 atm
I really have no clue how to do #1 but for #2 I got the pressure total to be 5.03 atm, but I'm not sure how to find the moles of gas and then how to find the volume?
