Mass spec. fragmentation of maelic anhydride?
« on: November 17, 2012, 04:03:26 PM »
Maleic anhydride:
{MOD Edit: remove link to Google of link to Wikipedia commons of link to Wikipedia of tiny png file, sheesh}

Mass spec:

I have the mass spec, but I can't figure out how it is fragmenting... nothing in my textbook to help with this kind of molecule, and my professor is a bum :/

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Well first find out which peak represents the molecular ion, then practice your subtraction skills. Then see if you can assign a reasonable structure to the result of the subtraction.
