Crystallization (Potassium Tetroxalate)
« on: November 24, 2012, 03:54:30 PM »
Does anyone know anything about the crystallization graph (Temperature and pressure) for ''Potassium tetroxalate dihydrate'' ??? I happened to realize that there is unique Temperature and Pressure for any kind of salt that nucleation starts and the speed of nucleation is the most in the crystallization procedure. Does anybody know anything about this, specially for ''Potassium tetroxalate dihydrate'' ?

I am looking for it too.
I had several tests to find the best growth temperature. I think my nucleation rate is more than crystal growth so I get small grain.
do you know anything about it?
thanks

Reduce the supersaturation? That should reduce your nucleation rate.

what is the temperature effect on the crystal size?I think the same that Dex ask. in a certain temperature and pressure it should has max crystal growth. what do you think?

thanks curiouscat. But should I keep the solution in a certain temperature for a specific time and then let it get cold to environment temperature? will that work? Cuz I had an experience and I kept the solution in 30 degree and then let that to chill out slowly to 5 degree and the crystals seem to be bigger. Does anyone have any idea or experience about this??

perhaps at elevated temperature the solution`s mobility is high so it seem the crystal growth will be high too.but on the other hand at elevated temperature the solubility will increase.then the crystallization rate will decrease and I will lose time.

I guess cooling rate is very important too. At first the solution is saturated and the temperature is high, then by cooling down the temperature, the solution becomes supersaturated and nucleation starts . but the cooling rate seems to be so important too. The problem is, I am not sure about the effect of the cooling rate. Does anybody know anything about this?

The rate of cooling affects crystal size and hence bulk density. You may need to cool a bit and them warm it up again.
Watch out for modifications.

is the method of production affect on the salt PH?
this salt is an acidic salt and there is several PH of this salt.but I could not understand it.
which parameter in production affect on the salt PH?
Thanks
