Goethite synthesis
« on: November 27, 2012, 09:16:48 AM »
Hello, I was asked to propose a mechanism of goethite(FeOOH) synthesis from Fe+3 and explain why Fe+3 is acidic according to the mechanism. Also I was given information that Fe+3 or more accurately [Fe(H2O)6]+3 reacts with carbonate ion which produce CO2( this is why Fe+3 is acidic) and ferrum complex makes some kind of dimer. I have no idea how that mechanism should look like I haven't seen anything like that before.
