Investigation on charcoal
« on: January 15, 2006, 04:00:14 AM »
we're currently working on the difference of green charcoal and wood charcoal.

we want to study the different concentration of air pollutants giving out during BBQ

but since the conc. are usually low we need a method to collect the pollutants from the burning charcoal,as well as experiments to test the amount of PAH and difference in the taste of food.

plus the experiment has to be carried out in a microscale....

can anyone plz help???

This probably wouldn't work very well on a microscale, but as far as collecting the pollutants have you thought about a filter?. Pass all the combustion air through a filter. The smaller the pollutants your looking for the finer your filter should be. You should try to take all the combustion gas and pass it through a really small filter if your concentrations are to low.

As far as testing for the PAH on the food, I do not know.

Active carbon filter shuld be the best.
