a way to measurement TCE in water
« on: December 28, 2012, 07:33:19 AM »
I need an analytic method for Trichloroethylene measurement. I'm going to remove TCE from water by nano zero valent iron.I think it would possible by using gas chromatography but I don't know how.would you please tell me how and also is there any other way ?
thanks for helps

I found this review in literature that uses GC to analyze TCE in drinking water.
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/bmc.488/abstract

Hope this would be somewhat helpful!

It depends on how low you need to see.
For 1000 ppm and up you can use GC TCD
For 100 ppm and up you can use FTIR (I think)
For 20 ppm and up you can use direct injection of water in GC FID with non-polar capillary column.
For 50 ppb and up you should use purge and trap GC FID or GC MS

You can also build something low budget using gas detection tubes.

thanks for this information. My solution concentration is about 50-200 ppm and I think it's better to use GC.
thanks for your help :)

for preparing the solution in a particular concentration I need the limit value for TCE in ground water. I've searched alot but I  just found the drinking water limit. again I need help if some one knows is.. :(
thanks

It depends on your country and state/province. Call local ministry of environment.

now I wanna use GC-FID and I need to extact available TCE in water.I know it should be extract in an organic phase, but when I try to use n-hexane,the peak of TCE was during the n-hexane's peaks.

please help me what can use instead of n-hexane to identify TCE better, I'm so thankful for your helps

You use either wrong or dead column.
