That really depends on what you really mean.  Do you mean the extraction of some active compound from a natural product, or are you asking about the extraction of some compound from an immiscible fluid, or just dissolving away from an insoluble impurity?

I'm interested in the extraction of active compound from natural product (water...).
I want to know why some metals are extracted and some are not, and why do I need acid environment (HNO3) to extract.
