Hi,can you suggest me why 2-methyl-propan-2-ol reacts with HI HBr and HCl at equal rates whereas butan-1-ol reacts with hydrogen halides in order of their reactivity?Is it because of tertiary carbocation stability??

The rate for SN1 only depends on the electrophile while the rate for SN2 depends on electrophile + nucleophile.
Does 2-methyl-propan-2-ol undergo SN1 or SN2?
