Spam Spike
« on: January 07, 2013, 08:43:09 AM »
Has there been a bit of a spam-spike lately on the Forums? Would making a new users very first post subject to moderator approval help any? Just a thought.

How many new posts do we have in a day? Wondering if it'd cause a spike in moderator work. If so, I'll slink away. Don't want the mods to hate me!  :)

There are better days and worse days, but from my observations amount of spam is fairly constant.

I'm not seeing much more spam lately either.  Maybe, because of recent holidays, MODs haven't been online at the worst times, and maybe curiouscat:, you've been on more often?  That's what I happened with me, long ago.  I was shocked by some explicit spam, and the MODs were all like, "Pretty ordinary, Arkcon:"
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

Yes, makes sense! I catch the best of the lot; often disappears before others get a chance to see it! :)

A quick check of your posting statistics confirms that you're active when I go to sleep.  You are in a significantly different time zone.  Fortunately, with Borek: in Europe and Mitch: in California (and other mods nicely distributed,) we're not bound to a single time range for MOD activity.
